A Level Geography

Studying Geography enables students to explore and evaluate contemporary
geographical questions and issues such as the consequences of globalisation,
responses to hazards, water insecurity and climate change.

Students are given the opportunity to develop an in-depth understanding of Physical and Human Geography, the complexity of people and environmental questions and issues, and to become critical, reflective and independent learners.

Entry Requirements
  • Grade 5 in GCSE Geography
  • Grade 5 in GCSE Mathematics
  • Grade 5 in English Language and/or Literature

Careers

Once students have gained a Geography A Level they may further continue their studies at University on a Geography degree or an Environmental Science degree.
Studying Geography can then lead to careers in Town Planning, Environmental Consultancy, Geographical Information Systems, Conservation, Teaching, Retail
Planning, Meteorology and Climatology.

Enrichment

Students must undertake an independent fieldwork enquiry that is conducted over a four day residential in the Lake District. Students will investigate a theme of their choice and will stay at the Blencathra FSC Hostel overlooking Derwent Water. During the trip students will conduct a variety of fieldwork methods at various locations such as Keswick and along the West Cumbrian Coast. Students are required to cover the cost of the trip, estimated at £350.
