Physical Education

At Beckfoot, students will develop a range of skills within different learning domains, while fostering a life long love of physical activity.

We deliver a broad and balanced curriculum allowing learners to experience a wide range of activities. Our intent is for learners to develop 4 key strands; knowledge and understanding of key tactical and decision making concepts alongside subject specific terminology, physical and performance skills for a wide range of individual and team sports, leadership qualities, skills and responsibilities and performance analysis skills.

Alongside this we aim to develop a lifelong love of sports and physical exercise to compliment mental and physical wellbeing.

Enrichment

Learners engage in a wide range of extra-curricular activities, and through fixtures experience both their immediate and wider community and the opportunities available.

Learners engage in a leadership programme that encourages students to support their peers, local primary school and community clubs.

Assessment

In years 7, 8 and 9, internal assessments will take place throughout each year to monitor student progress and further inform teaching and learning. Students will continue core PE in Year 10 and 11 to ensure their wellbeing physically and mentally.

KS4 can engage in a our BTEC course to continue their studies of sport.

Learners will develop teamwork, orienteering and problem-solving skills. They will develop core skills and tactical awareness in a range of isolated practices and conditioned games, while developing knowledge of basic rules and leadership skills in: Basketball, rugby, badminton, football and netball.

Learners will develop core skills on the floor and low level apparatus, while developing knowledge of choreographic devices and leadership skills in gymnastics.

Learners will consolidate core skills and develop advanced tactical awareness in a range of isolated practices, conditioned and larger/full sided games while developing knowledge of advanced rules and leadership skills in: badminton, football, basketball, netball and rugby.

Learners will consolidate core skills and develop advanced skills on the floor and larger apparatus in gymnastics, they will develop their choreographic devices and leadership skills in gymnastics.

Athletics – consolidation of core skills and development of advanced skills at faster pace/using age appropriate equipment and developing further technical and tactical knowledge.

Year 9

Learners will develop core skills and tactical awareness in a range of isolated practices and conditioned games like volleyball and table tennis.

Learners will develop their own fitness along with their knowledge of training a variety of components through different training methods.

Athletics – consolidation of core skills and development of advanced skills at faster pace/using age appropriate equipment and developing further technical and tactical knowledge.

Year 10

Core: Striking and fielding in rounders and cricket and development of core skills in softball.

CNAT:Performance of skills and techniques, participating in activities, decision making during performance, managing and maintaining performance in individual activities, strengths and weaknesses of sports performance and methods and measures to improve performance.

Organisation of a sports activity session, safety considerations, objectives to meet the needs of the group, leading a sports activity session.

GCSE: Skeletal system – students will learn the structure and function of the skeletal system and apply it to sport.

Core: Badminton, basketball, football, netball, rugby, volleyball, table tennis, fitness and cheerleading

CNAT: 6 weeks practical (action plan – badminton), session plan and risk assessment, student lead sessions, review of leadership and sports activity session

GCSE: Muscular system, movement analysis, the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, and effects of exercise on the body

Core: Athletics

CNAT: Distinguish between different media sources and how they cover sport, the positive relationship between the media and sport

GCSE: Components of fitness, applying the principles of training, prevention of injury and engagement patterns of different social groups in physical activities and sports

Year 11

Core: Striking and fielding

CNAT: The positive relationship between the media and sport, students complete NEA assessment. Introduction to the exam and user groups, user groups and possible barriers, barrier solutions, whole class feedback and the popularity of sport in the UK

Core: Students will take part in a variety of options, consolidating skills in full sided games, developing health and fitness and experiencing activities to foster a lifelong love an participation in physical activity beyond education.

CNAT: Popularity of sport in the UK, emerging/new sports in the UK, WCF and sporting values, the Olympics and Paralympics, initiatives, etiquette and sporting behaviour, PEDS, pre-event aspects, major sporting events, positives and negatives during the event, immediate and longer term impacts post event, role of technology in sport, positives and negatives of technology in sport.
