A Level English Literature

This course builds on the study of English Literature at GCSE and aims to encourage students to develop an interest and enjoyment in literature through reading widely, critically and independently across time and genre.

You will be encouraged to critically debate with your peers as you discuss your personal responses to texts and your critical preferences while exploring shared themes. Texts you’ll read include Shakespeare’s Othello, Wuthering Heights, Journey’s End and war poetry.

  • Grade 6 in GCSE English Language and/or Literature
  • Grade 4 in GCSE Mathematics

  • Unit 1: Love through the ages exam (40%)

  • Unit 3: Independent Critical Study: Texts across time (20%)

This course is widely accepted by universities as an entrance qualification for those wishing to read English or other related subjects. It also develops higher
level analytical skills which are useful in a wide range of University courses and careers.
