Further Maths is a demanding course which results in achieving two A Levels by
the end of Year 13. This is taught in just six hours a week, so students need to be
prepared to complete independent work outside of lessons. It is an extremely challenging course but can be rewarding if you are up for the challenge.
Two-thirds of the A level Maths qualification is made up of Pure Core Maths,
which provides techniques in Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and Calculus –
the fundamental building blocks of this subject. The final one-third of this
qualification is made up from Mechanics and Statistics. Similarly, Further Pure Maths makes up two thirds of the A level Further Maths qualification. Mathematical applications make up the remainder of the course. At Beckfoot, we study Decision and Mechanics.
