A Level Mathematics

A Level Maths provides students with a thorough grounding in the mathematical
tools and techniques often needed in the workplace. The logic and reasoning
skills developed by studying A Level Maths make sure the qualification is widely
respected.

Entry Requirements
  • Grade 7 in GCSE Maths
  • Grade 4 in GCSE English
  • A secure knowledge of co-ordinate geometry, algebraic manipulation, surds, indices and trigonometry
Units studied
  • Pure Maths
  • Statistics
  • Mechanics

Two-thirds of the qualification is made up of Pure Core Maths, the other third is Mechanics and Statistics

Careers

Maths is essential for studying Maths, Physics or Engineering at University, and for these subjects Further Maths is highly desirable or even essential at the top
institutions (see page on Further Mathematics). Other courses which benefit from Maths A Level are medicine, economics, accounting and other sciences.
