Home Learning

Home learning at Beckfoot is made up of three elements: independent learning, homework and Class Charts. Our approach to home learning empowers students to become knowledgeable and expert learners, as they build effective study habits and develop their own independence. It also enables families, students and school to work together to ensure limitless possibilities and opportunities for all. To view homework instructions for each subject, please view the specific subject information on our curriculum page.

Independent Learning Booklets

Independent Learning Booklets should be brought to school every day and must be on students desks every tutor time to allow their tutors to check it. Students will receive a new ILB every half term, and they will provide students with the following information:

  • Spaces for messages between home and school
  • Instructions for logging onto Class Charts
  • Homework instructions for every subject
  • Independent learning instructions
  • Knowledge Organisers with key subject facts and independent learning activities
  • Learn like a Beckfooter Instructions – reading, revision, reflection

Seneca Learning

Seneca is an online learning platform that has high-quality courses for many subjects at Key Stage 3, GCSE and A Level. Your child will be able to log into Seneca on a phone, tablet or computer and study their school subjects.

Students should use Seneca little and often throughout the year rather than using it to cram in the weeks before their assessments – it is a great way to support the Homework set by teachers. Sometimes, our staff might even set students Homework using this platform.

All student accounts have been set up with their school email addresses. If your child has forgotten their password, they can simply click the ‘forgotten my password’ button on the website and a link will be sent to their school email account so that they can reset their password.

Students can log in using their school email address here: Seneca Login

Class Charts

Class Charts is an online system which teachers use to set and track homework, achievement and more. One of the many benefits of Class Charts is that we can securely share your child’s homework assignments, deadlines, and submissions with you, and keep you up to date with your child’s progress in real time.

How is Class Charts used for homework?

Teachers will set homework assignments on the system so that students and families can see exactly when homework was set and when it is due in. They can also see how long the assignment should take to help them manage their own time effectively and independently.

Tutors will use the system to check how much their students are engaging with independent learning and record any of their successes or concerns on the app for you to view. We expect students to check Class Charts every evening so they can prepare for the upcoming deadlines and check of their homework as they go.
